Leaving San Diego this morning certainly had mixed emotions. Caught in the tension of excitement to embark on an adventure and leaving those that I love most behind. I am sure these emotions will settle over time and I pray that the next month of travel will be a month of growth. Growth in my profession as a surgeon, growth in knowledge, growth in appreciation for the blessings I have in San Diego at Scripps and Rady Childrens , and perhaps most of all growth in my capacity as a husband and father.
This will be an amazing trip to Accra, Ghanna, Tel Aviv, Israel, Ankara and Istanbul, Turkey, and Ciambatore, India. The SRS traveling fellowship team includes our Senior Mentor, Dr. George Thompson, and 3 “younger” surgeons: Dr. John Caridi, Dr. Addisu Mesfin, and myself. On this trip we will have the opportunity to share about our own passions in research, learn from our host surgeons what their academic passions are and be able to observe some of the great surgeons of our time in the operating room. We will get some time to see the sites and enjoy the new cultures we will be exposed to.
As this is my first attempt at blogging please bear with me through the technical challenges I will no doubt face.
